how 'dilli 6' became 'delhi 6'

It was called Dilli 6 from day one. Closer to release, it is now spelt as Delhi 6. Has Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra bogged down to numerology?. We don't know. But we ask noted astro numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi what he has to say about the change in the spelling.

"The new spelling Delhi 6 will prove beneficial for everyone involved. The old name Dilli 6 which added up to Number 18 was not an auspicious number for both Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor while Delhi 6 which now totals to Number 24 is a powerful number, " predicts Bhavikk.

He adds further, "Although this number is better suited for a love story (which Delhi 6 is probably not), the film will ensure appreciation from all quarters. It will prove beneficial mainly for Sonam Kapoor & the producer, Ronnie Screwvala (as per his date of birth (8th June) - 6 is his luckiest numbers). This film will give further credibility to UTV ".

Delhi 6 unveiled at Dubai film festival

One can confidently say that the Indian cinema has definitely left a mark at the ongoing Dubai International Film Festival, which ended on December 17, 2008. The festival saw the unveiling of first look of the highly anticipated film Delhi 6, which is jointly produced by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra Productions and UTV Motion Pictures.

The first look of the film was unveiled before the big daddies of entertainment around the world. One also saw the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and UTV's head honcho Siddharth Roy Kapoor, at the festival.

Following the screening was an interactive Q and A round, comprising of the director with the rest of starcast and a vast audience. During this interaction, Rakeysh spoke about his key influences and the theme of the film, while the film's actors described their experience of working with Rakyesh.

All in all, the excitement and the curiosity of the audiences regarding Dilli 6 has now reached a different level altogether.

One of the most awaited flicks ‘Delhi 6’ is all set to hit Indian theatres by next month (Feb 2009).

The Bollywood movie ‘Delhi -6’, which stars multi-talented Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor’s loving daughter Sonam Kapoor is directed by Rakeysh Mehra.

Based on Rakeysh Mehra’s growing up days in Delhi’s Chandini Chowk, the title of the film has been inspired from the city’s (Delhi) pincode – 110006.

If the hearsays are to be trusted, then, ‘Delhi 6’ is a film, which is about an American-born Roshan (played by Abhishek Bachchan), who brings his sick grandma back to India for a quick visit. In India, he falls in love with the petite Sonam Kapoor.

The story of the movie tells that how this quick visit turns into a long journey.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Ronnie Screwvala are together producing this film on UTV Motions Pictures and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Productions banner.

After the immensely successful ‘Rang De Basanti’, which was nominated for an Oscar in the foreign film category, Delhi 6 is Rakeysh’s third directorial venture.

Story behind 'Masakalli' in delhi 6 movie

So What's the meaning of 'masakalli' in the dove song of Delhi 6 .Its the name of Sonam kapoor's Dove.So here is the story of the masakalli song which was not at all planned by the director.



Sooraj Barjatya’s “Maine Pyar Kiya” had a pigeon song that became popular and 20 years later Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has a dove song in his forthcoming film “Delhi-6″. He says it was not part of the original plan.”The song was not really meant to be part of the narrative. I mean, who would think of putting in a song about a dove in a film like ‘Delhi-6′? It just happened. When I came to the pre-climax portion of my script, I was stuck. I needed a continuity link taking the narrative to its finale,” Mehra said in an interview.

Mehra’s much talked-about “Delhi-6″ has a large cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek, Sonam Kapoor and Gulshan Grover as well as a dove named Masakali who serves as the romantic leitmotif in the plot.

So crucial was the dove to the film that a whole song was written and composed in its honour. The song “Masakali” is sung by Mohit Chauhan whose voice A.R. Rahman had used in “Rang De Basanti”.

“When I narrated the scene to Rahman, he said, ‘I can see a dove here’. I was taken aback. I had never mentioned Sonam’s dove to Rahman. How did he know about it? That’s how the song ‘Masakali’ was born,” said Mehra.

Mehra says the songs fit well in the plot of the movie.

“When Rahman and I did ‘Rang De Basanti’, we didn’t think about anything except how well the songs and music fitted into the plot. The music of ‘Delhi-6′ is again designed only for the film. The dove song ‘Masakali’ makes sense only within the parameters of our plot.”

BiGB Role in Delhi 6

If you are a big actor, you should be able to play every role with elan. And Amitabh Bachchan will be exemplifying the former statement with his 'photo' act in Rakeysh Mehra's Delhi 6 starring his son Abhishek Bachchan.
Well, a little birdie just told us that the absolute Sarkar of Bollywood will be playing his real life son's reel life grandpa in the film. But chances are, that besides a teeny weeny part, he might just end up being just a hanging photograph on some wall.
Rishi Kapoor will be seen playing Abhishek's foster father in the film. Whereas Sonam Kapoor will be essaying the role of his love interest. (Phew!) We're sure there must've been more family drama on the sets than in the movie!
